Chicken or egg?

Which came first - the chicken or the egg? A sign of gamification of smoking, near a university somewhere in London (maybe Bloomsbury?). Neat idea. Discourages litter, encourages debate. And possibly also smoking. The chicken seems to be winning.

Wet wit

They're realistic about the weather at the Twice Brewed Inn on Hadrian's Wall. As soon as I saw the signs, I knew I'd enjoy it here.

Intelligent graffiti

Do you think you're more intelligent than the average person?

Graffiti on building wall

The average person thinks they're more intelligent than average.

Eye eye

Most signs can be improved by a pair of googly eyes, I think.

Think inside the box

I saw this sign outside a bar in Manchester last year and the message made me smile. The sun has been out today, so I will be thinking inside the box again soon, aiming to get some herbs and salad leaves growing.

Insert hairdresser pun here

Ash hair in Heaton Moor is showing promising signs of adding a bit of fun to the neighbourhood. Its sign is made of old saws, the reception desk is a mini car and there's a mirror made of an old bath. Oh, and I believe the hair styling is pretty good too.

Common people too

Continuing the Common people theme, here's a sign spotted by my lovely cousin, which he's dubbed "social engineering in Southampton". All aboard?

Please don't teleport at Stockport station

Another good sign from Virgin Trains. Am only slightly disappointed about the teleporting - I'm sure there will be an app for that soon.

Dreaming of summer

I really rather like this thoughtful sign at B&Q, urging us to dream of summer - in case the real thing doesn't actually materialise.

Station destination

The Friends of Heaton Chapel Station are fast making this little local train station a destination in itself. This amusing sign points to the location of the old covered footbridge which once joined the two platforms. The footbridge was demolished a few years ago as part of the main line upgrade, and passengers now have to go out of the station and use the pavement to cross to platform 1. Built in 1851 – on the instigation of a local vicar using his influence – the station now caters for over 700,000 passengers a year. It once boasted three waiting rooms, coal fires, a branch of WH Smith and lots of porters.  It’s now entering a new kind of heyday thanks to the Friends of the station, who have supplied vintage ads, pretty plants and a wonderful new clock – as well as this bit of much needed humour for your morning commute.

This wall is the entire property of the county of Middlesex

Strange little sign in Sans Walk, in the Clerkenwell area of London. Why did the county of Middlesex only own this one wall? Why did they invest in a sign to boast of this paucity of property? It's a mystery. If you know more, please do tell.

Tired of London, tired of signs

I spotted this sign in Old Gloucester Street, in the Russell Square area of London. All London streets have a fair quota of blue plaques, and this area is no different. I love a good blue plaque, but am often disappointed that I've never heard of the person commemorated. This sign forgave me for my lack of historical knowledge and made me smile.

Yours is the one on the right

There were many fine things to photograph in Stockholm, but I chose this. Anyone fancy a Plopp?

Two for the price of one
Or maybe this is more appealing?
