Glasgow has a fantastic shopping centre, and for a moment I almost believed I could go shopping in the past when I saw these gorgeous ghost signs just off Sauchiehall Street.

Garage ghost sign
Two lovely ghost signs in Kelvin Grove, Liverpool. They're in the Welsh Streets area, the subject of controversial plans for demolition and development for over 10 years. I visited on a peaceful summer day. The rows of empty terraced houses stood proudly erect in a salute to past lives, and the signs were a gentle reminder of the everyday business once conducted there. Oh, and if you're a Peaky Blinders fan, there's a treat of a street there for you.

The middle way
When in
London, have the courage to veer off the main streets and into the little
alleyways and narrow lanes. You’ll be rewarded with some of the more
interesting sights of the city.
Middle Temple
Lane is just off the Strand, where it meets Fleet Street. It is one of London’s
four inns of court. Nip down here and you feel you’re in a different century. It
was the home of the Knights Templar, those medieval crusaders. Set up as
hostels and schools for lawyers in the 13th century, Middle Temple now
houses barristers’ offices (or chambers). Worth a visit for its picturesque
cobbled lanes, gardens and church.

Up a back passage
Well, it made me smile. Humble sign in an unprepossessing alleyway in an otherwise charming West Didsbury, Manchester.
